BUG - Cannot Find and tap USB for charging, then select Transfer files (MTP).

The USB option ONLY displays for a split second when you disconnect and reconnect the USB cable. When it does, you have to be lightning fast to change the USB setting to Transfer Files, which when selected doesn't change anyway. It does enable you to transfer files to a PC but doesn't change the setting so you can update your phone software from your PC.

This is a another bug in the XA Ultra.

After connecting micro USB from mobile to computer, i get the following:

1. Your Device is locked

2. Set Xperia to MTP mode.

How do i do that?

Unlock your device before connecting to pc
Once you insert usb cable to pc. There will br prompt on device screen. Select 2nd option to connect via mtp

Tried that and it still says device is locked

Have you tried restarting your device? And pc.
Try to connect while you are in safe mode. Long press power off option on device

Still saying my device is locked and to set Xperia to MTP mode.

I go to settings > device connection > USB Connectivity > Install Software

Its asking me to install software to manage content on your Xperia from a computer.

Looks like i have to disconnect the USB cable from the local PC and then reconnect because the phone then displays a option to use the cable for charging or file transfer.

It didn't display this option the first time i connected the USB cable and even once tapped. it doesn't actually change the setting from charge to transfer.

Hi

Turn that setting to install software off, then enable developers options by going to settings, about phone, and tapping the build number 10 times,

Once you have it enabled, go in and find the USB mode and select MTP there
