Sony E18/200 LE

I'm struggling to get sharp or well exposed images with the Sony 18-200  lens and my Sony A7ii, someone said it isn't compatible to the A7ii body other than it's e-mount?

I find the images very soft on max focal length.

Any ideas?

regards

GP

Hi GP and welcome.

I presume this is your lens :

https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/camera-lenses/sel18200le#reviews_awards_v2_default

This is a APS-C lens designed for E-Mount cameras with the smaller (and cheaper)  APS=C sensor. When used with your full-frame sensor in your A7ii it will only use a small part of the sensor - only about 10,000 of the 24,000 pixels.

Even when shooting in Crop Mode (APS-C mode from the shooting menu), quality will suffer. Because of the crop factor, image noise will increase by a factor of 2.25X..A bit like buying a Ferrari and only using third gear!

Hi @PhotoGP, welcome to the Community.

I'm surprised to hear you are able to use an e-mount lens on your A7ii, can you describe the set up, ie, which adaptor you are using?

Thanks

Mick

Thank you so much for getting in touch I feel a bit of a fool! But your response has explained it very well and makes complete sense. Looks like I'll have to part ex the lens for something that does utilise the cameras megapixels in their entirety.

I'll check out the video too.

Best wishes
