ExpressCard Version

I have a VAIO VGN-Z11WN/B purchased in 2008. I would like to use USB3.0 via a card in the ExpressCard Slot.. Will I be able to get full USB 3.0 speed as I am told that it is only possible with a ExpressCard V2 slot. How can I find out which version slot I have. I want to attach a USB 3.0 external disc for faster backups but there is no point if I am only going to get USB 2 speeds.

Express Card 2 standard was not released until the beginning of 2009.

Do you know if this means that I cannot get full USB3 speed if I attach a USB3 capable HDD or not.

Hi brstone64,

With Express card standard 1 you will be limited to a speed of 2.5 Gbps as opposed to a possible maximum speed of 5 Gbps with standard 2.
