Spiro: memory card not visible from phone

Just bought a new Spiro phone.

I have inserted a memory card and was able to attach it to my PC via USB and copy files to the memory card. When I detach the USB cable (safely remove!), the memory card content is not visible. No mp3 files are detected and using the File Manager, I can see no files on the memory card and the status shows 0 Kbytes. I am not able to create new folders on the memory card either. Get strange error message about illegal character in file name - will be removed, but nothing happens. I have tried to insert the memory card in another phone (not Spiro) and it works. I have tried to use another working memory card in the Spiro, but get exactly the same sympthoms.

I have also tried to switch of the phone and connect to the PC, then turn it on and safely remove, but not change.

Any good ideas ?.

/Martin

http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/mobilephones/downloads/subject/updateservice/spiro?cc=gb&lc=... Try running the SE update service on your phone and see if that helps. This will not affect the memory and SIM cards but will wipe the phone memory, so you need to back up this data on PC beforehand.Otherwise, try a master reset and if this doesn't solve the problem either, try formatting the memory card after backing up its content on PC.

Thanks.

Did an SE update even though it was already up to date. No change.

Did a master reset. No change.

Does the phone support memory card format ? - I did not find one.

If not, how is best way to format the memory card for this purpose ?.

Main menu--Organiser--File manager--(select any folder)--Options--Memory status--Memory card--Options--Format memory card.

Thanks for you help, but formatting failed. Still 0 Free bytes.

I better return the phone, right ?.

Are you sure these memory cards you have tried are compatible with the Spiro?

One of the memory cards is:

SanDisk MicroSDHC Imaging 16GB

Model: SDSDQB-016G-B35

Maybe I have made a mistake. Maybe it must be MicroSD. I thought that MicroSD did only support 2GB as max, so when the Spiro says it support up to 16GB, it also supports MicroSDHC.

Which memory card should I use ?.

Ok, this is probably the reason.

Does Class 2 mean MicroSD (and not MicroSDHC). The vendor, where I bought this memory card, did specify this MicroSDHC to be Class 2.

Then it should be compatible with the Spiro as memory cards from 4GB upwards are SDHC anyway. The other thing you could try is to format the card on a PC in FAT32 mode, using a USB card reader.Otherwise, if this card works OK in a different phone and you have already tried all the troubleshooting options, then it's best to return the phone to the vendor.
