[BUG REPORT] Xperia mini pro camera does not keep track of picture number in file names...

Android version: 2.3.4

Build number: 4.0.2.A.0.62

Hello,

I would just like to report that the Xperia mini pro (and possibly also Xperia mini) camera does not keep track of picture number in file names properly. It will keep track of the number as long as the user does not delete any pictures, but as soon the user deletes one/more/all pictures taken with the phone's camera, the camera system will "fill the numbering gaps" when new pictures are taken, instead of just continuing from the number of the last picture taken.

* Note: this bug occurs when deleting pictures from anywhere outside the default camera application, such as when connected to the computer, or when using the phone's default Gallery application, or when using thrid-party gallery or file manager applications.

When deleting pictures from within the gallery function within the default camera application, the filename numbering continues correctly. But we want it to number correctly after any method of deleting pictures.

Example:

1) Suppose you take five pictures, which are respectively named like this:

     DSC_0001.JPG

     DSC_0002.JPG

     DSC_0003.JPG

     DSC_0004.JPG

     DSC_0005.JPG

2) Let's say we delete the following pictures:

     DSC_0002.JPG

     DSC_0003.JPG

     The pictures that remain are:

          DSC_0001.JPG

          DSC_0004.JPG

          DSC_0005.JPG

3) Now we'll take two new pictures.

Expected result: two new pictures named "DSC_0006.JPG" and "DSC_0007.JPG":

Actual result: two new pictures named "DSC_0002.JPG" and "DSC_0003.JPG"

The problem: Duplicate file names when transferring the pictures to my computer; these two new pictures numbered as 0002 and 0003 will overlap the older pictures numbered as 0002 and 0003 that are already stored on my computer.

Thank you in advance, have a nice day. Slightly_smiling_Face

I noticed something similar, so what I do, if I want to transfer

    DSC_0001.JPG

     DSC_0002.JPG

     DSC_0003.JPG

     DSC_0004.JPG

     DSC_0005.JPG

I don't erase   DSC_0005.JPG so the next picture will be   DSC_0006.JPG this is not just a Xperia bug or issue, the same is true w/ sony cameras

Hopefully they'll see this and fix it.

Thanks for posting. I'll forward this.

I've noticed the same and I have two different ways to suggest to work around this.

1. Create photo albums with different folders.

2. Copy the pictures to the same folder and choose to keep both of them (don't over write any files) and then set the view to detailed list and then sort after date (making the name irrelevant).

i had a nokia n95 before the arc..

it had a software nokia lifeblog data...something like that..

i used to transfer pics from phone to pc through that...

and it would create different folders like when all the pics and vids were taken..

it used to place files accoding to the months the pics , sms were taken...

it was a good feature...

does media go do this..??

i know i should download.. for some reason wifi's not working and is losing signal so download is interupting..
