My main email account is with yahoo and although I've entered the pop3 and then the imap settings that yahoo tell me are correct, I cannot get the email set up on my phone. Any ideas how to do this without having to access my account via internet browser?
Thanks

http://uk.mobilemail.yahoo.net/welcome/ The reason I asked you, is because you should be able to set up an email client on your phone so that you don't need to use the browser.Just follow the above link which will take you through the necessary steps. This can used for free IMAP Yahoo mail accounts as well.

In some instances yahoo requires a premium service fee to allow pop3/imap email access (e.g non-web based access) however you can download a specific Android Yahoo email application via the market which should provide a solution. For more information please see http://mobile.yahoo.com/android#overview or alternatively search 'Yahoo" in android market from your phone.
Hope this helps

I do have a UK mobile number.
I have downloaded the android app but just wanted to make life simpler for myself by not having to access mail through the web browser, seems I may be disappointed after all.
Cheers anyway

If the stock email app isn't working your could try K9 or Maildroid, both are very similar and are free downloads from the market. I have in the past set up a Yahoo account on K9 as a test for another user but Iost it in the 2.1 update and never bothered to reset it as I never used it, but it would have only been using either Pop3 or Imap settings available on Yahoo's help pages.

Dr Chris, you are, indeed, a genius! It appears to have worked and I sent a test message to my friend, so will await a response and then we're up and running: thanks 😄

No problem.I've been using this for my free IMAP email account on my W995 and it's working fine.Funny thing is though, that when looking at the account settings, the internet connection ("Connect using" setting) under both IMAP & SMTP is set to Yahoo, but as I have found, if you change this to your mobile carrier's internet account, it also works! Not quite sure what this is all about, but I'm not complaining!
