No sound from Sony Bravia TV through Sony Home Cinema - Yes that old chestnut.....

Hi to all, I'm a new member and wondering how to get some advice on the above topic, I've read through all the old posts and even called Sony customer support with no success. What is more frustrating is that whilst I was waiting on hold on a phone call (not to Sony) yesterday, to cure my boredom I was flicking through the usual set up settings and low and behold the sound came through the home cinema. I was so excited I ended the call immediately and lavished (after 3 months) in the surround sound of the TV through the home cinema..... Unfortunately I was not actually concentrating on what I had done to achieve this and promptly headed out to meet friends for an evening out. Returning that evening filled with confidence and the feeling of accomplishment I began to actually arrange the home cinema and speakers around the room which I had not bothered to do in 3 months, not being able to get the system 'working fully'..... On reconnection of the unit guess what? Nooooooo! no sound again from the TV through the home cinema. Tried again for another 3 hours to repeat my earlier success with no luck..... I wondered if there is anyone out there for whom I have provided great amusment or feels any pity for a poor tormented soul please point me in the right direction.... 😕

Hi wynrhys1,

Welcome to the Sony Community.

I'm not entirely sure, but have a read here on how to connect the television sound through your home cinema system.

If you've already completed these steps with no joy, I think it would be best if you contacted Support here for further help.

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks,

Hi wynrhys1,

For specific issues, there's never a all-valid solution I'm afraid.

Assuming you're connected via the HDMI, and wanting to hear the TV sound through the surround and not just the DVD's, I'd think of this firstly.

Are the TV audio settings on surround iso internal speakers?

Are you sure you followed exactly the startup instructions of the surround, I was reading it here https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/res/manuals/4178/41782471M.pdf.

Good luck,

Ollie

Hi Ollie,

Thank you for your reply. Yes I’ve followed Sony’s instructions, the ‘settings’ menu on my TV is different from the description however and I think this is part of the problem. Both units are bravia synced, HDMI settings and outputs appear to be correct, just that when I select select ‘Audio Speakers’ the system activates just that no sound comes out. I think it’s something to do with the AV presets and labels, clearly I stumbled on the correct combination on Monday.....

As I mentioned in my original message, the most frustrating thing is that I did have it working (briefly) on Monday, this did demonstrate that the system does/can work though. After a walk through with Sony customer support who also didn’t recognise my ‘settings’ menu their suggestion was to take it to my closest Sony centre, 70 miles away........ I’ll persevere....

I’m sure for someone who knows the system it’s a couple of simple clicks. I will make sure I post the solution when I find it...........

Thanks again for your reply and help.

Kind regards

Wyn
