As the subject states for over a year I have always used the pre installed google app on my Sony TV while watching programs through my Sky Q box without any problems.
I now have no sound responses, (the female voice), unless I am watching the TV but not via the Sky box.
This seems to have started since a recent Sony software upgrade and was wondering if there is any connection with this
I have rebooted both TV and Sky Q box but to no avail.
How recent was the update? This is the latest: https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/oled-tvs-android-a9g_ag9-series/kd-55ag9/downloads/000170...
Try going to Settings - Apps and find Google Assistant on there then clear the cache/data.

Thanks for getting in touch
The latest update is the one you sent the link for, it was updated from 'software updates' a week or so ago, I did receive an email from Sony late November which said this update was available and I could manually update by downloading it to a memory stick but I decided to wait until 'it was my turn' to get it automatically.
I have tried some thing but I have always worked on the theory that a little knowledge is worse than none, ie you think you can do it but in the end you only make thing worse.
My next move will be to contact Sky to ask if the problem could be my Sky Q box
Thanks again and your advise is welcome
Been told by someone on Sky community the problem could be with 'Audio Focus'
https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/media-apps/audio-focus
Would be nice if this could be disabled or adjusted?
Suggestions grateful guys.
This can't be adjusted as far as I know. Maybe Google have something to say about that. I'd try to get in touch.

Thanks Win_88
I've found a sort of solution, in my TVs 'accessibility' settings there is a setting called 'TalkBack' when this is set to 'ON' I get the Google voice replies I wanted via Sky Q box, (great!), the downside to that is I now get a voice that tells me absolutely everything, levels % etc, about what ever button I am pressing on the TVs remote control.
This is not the same thing as 'audio description' for sight impaired people though.
I have tried to see if it was possible to limit these responses to what I actually want a voice for but to no avail.
Once again Win_88 your interest in my question is appreciated.
Talkback does exactly what you mentioned, so if you're okay with that, keep it on, but I doubt it.
I'm starting to think this is just a change that was introduced to Android in the last update rather than it being an issue.

Hi again Win_88
I've been having a 'chat' with Sky and and they know of my issues now and said they will investigate it more for me, I even asked for an engineer to visit me with another box to see if there is a fault but said the can't what I am paying for in theory I am getting, google assistant was not part of the deal.
They made some suggestions, including Talkback, and installing the latest software updates on the TV but nothing that I have already tried, they finished by saying the latest TV system update from Sony may be a cause, funny that, it was around the same time, shame I can't uninstall this major update to see if it made a difference.
I'll get back to you to keep you updated If I get anything useful from them that might help others
Regards,
Terry
PS You are right about TalkBack.....it's off for now! LOL
It was worth a shot anyway. Keep us updated
Will do
