Maybe its a blessing, as an update to Android TV would probably make our TVs run even slower.

According to a German news site, Philips is putting Oreo on all MediaTek based Android TV sets. That might put some pressure on Sony too...

So according to that Sony will put Oreo only on MediaTek MT5891 (ATV2) based TVs while MediaTek MT5890 (ATV1) based TVs won't receive it. Philips also puts it on MT5890 based TVs it seems...

I do. Because all TVs since mid-2016 share the same processor and firmware image (drivers a.s.o.). So updating all those TVs is actually easier than restricting it to some. Of course it is more testing effort... in theory... Sony doesn't do that though...
