Android 8.0 Oreo/ 9.0 Pie

Is it OK to expect Android Oreo on 2017 Sony Android TVs?

I can't guess what Sony are doing with their OTA releases but to the OP who started this latest discussion, I have a KD-65XE8596 here and that never received v6.6520 as an OTA update either. In other words you're not alone, basically. In the end I opted to do the USB dance and it seems stable here for whatever that's worth.

I manually updated my XE9305 and have no  problems. I checked the auto update option and I  had turned that off which  is probably why I didnt get the OTA update  so you might want to check that you havent turned  it off.

Help me out, folks. I’m baffled!

I can't see the words Android 8.0 Oreo anywhere on my KD-55XG9505 TV

Where should I look?

I can see software PKG6.2510.0325EUA

Is this the same as firmware?

When I go on the Sony support site and enter my model number it only offers me downloads of a channels app for my PC (actually, I did once see a firmware offering but while I was checking out the huge partially displayed list of models, i got interrupted and I have never been able to find it since.) Could some kind person look there for me?

Does Sony or Android just provide one big update (last around April?) or are there lots of small updates (e.g. security updates like my Microsoft PC gets regularly)

I guess I really don’t know what having an Android system means for my TV. Is it like a smart phone?

My TV says it’s up to date but I don’t trust it! How can I tell?

Sorry to chunter on!

I have a 49XF9005, but I’m sure the settings are similar. Go into your settings menu Settings > About and scroll down to Version. Mine shows 8.0.0. Android is simply the name of an operating system, in the same way that Apple has iOS, and Microsoft has Windows.

Hi @Pat100  As you have seen there are no updates available for your TV at this present time. To verify the Android version https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/articles/00115311. You can see what Apps are available by going to the Google Play Store.

My bugs are still the same. WiFi has been flaky for me since Oreo. DTS-HD API still broken. Only good thing is that security patch level has been increased to 1st of September.

Omg, it's sadness.

I try to update later and have a look at VideoApp tests.

Yet still in Finland I’m “stuck” on 7.0… No update available ☹

Update to v6.6545 on a KD-55XE9305 completed without any problems.
