Sony MDR 1000X Bracket broken

Hello!

I recently purchased a pair of these great headphones and although I have been thoroughly impressed, I have to write about some disappointment I have experienced. I have had these headphones for about 3 months and a week about the bracket on the hinge of the headphones started to break.

Unphased, I still continued to wear them until today where they broke off completely.

Now I have seen many issues online where there is a design flaw in the headphones where too much pressure can cause the bracket to break so I am extremely unimpressed.

My question is what can we do about this. Prior to purchasing them I read that they are virtually indestructible and honestly an issue like this isn't something I'd expect from a £300+ pair of headphones. It's just so sad because the sound quality of them are second to none.

Thank you.

Hi,

I have had the same problem with cracking near the hinge.  This is completely unacceptable for such an expensive set of headphones.  Please advise how to rectify this problem.

Best,

Michael

Hi,

Glad to hear they replaced your headphones.  I have the same problem with my headphones.  What is the best way to contact customer service?

So not thinking to google about my headphones I stumbled across this forum today. I have not used my headphones for at least the last 6 months due to them cracking.

After a lengthy conversation with a customer support agent he told me that Sony do not abide to the 2 year EU consumer law and I would have to pay for headphones to be fixed as they are out of the 1year warranty.

That’s a disgrace and surely Sony are accountable for this? Has anybody had any luck in making Sony conform with EU consumer law as the product we have been sold is faulty?

It's not Sony that have to abide by the 2 year rule, it is the retailer
where you bought the headphones from.

No. They hide behind the argument that we have damaged them and there is not a known fault. Which is clearly nonsense just looking at this thread.

Ive just vowed never to buy from Sony again.

In regards the 2 year warranty - Curry’s/pC world ask you to prove it’s a fault. How do you do that? They helped me send them to Sony but they send them back blaming me.

What more can we do?

Currys/PC world did eventually give me a partial refund after I found a
thread somewhere showing that Sony was at fault and I showed them this
email from Sony after I sent the headphones in to them :

"*As per our telephone conversation, we will return the headphones to you.
I can confirm that if the headphones were in the `12 month manufacturer’s
warranty we would have repaired the headphones free of charge. Please do
not hesitate to contact us if you have any further queries.*

*Kind Regards.*..."

There are complete kits you can purchase to replace this part.  There's a video here on how to replace this part on Sony MDR-1000X and WH-1000XM2.    https://youtu.be/kCyP-gQUU68

Was the proud owner of these Sony WH-1000X M2 until the right ear bracket broke whilst removing them from my ears.

Utter disappointment, not what you'd expect from a pair of premium headphones.

I see Sony have not modified this shoddy craftsmanship in successive models.

Pity the build clearly does not match the sound quality.

Dear Sony,

Must I continue posting my dissatisfaction across social media?

Or will you fix my and other disaffected owner's defected Sony headsets?

Regards.
