Sony Bravia TV and Sony DVD/HD Recorder: Missing channels following Freeview udate.

Following Free-view terrestrial channel changes on 16th Sept 2026, I have been unable to receive ITV2+1 or ITV4+1 on my Sony TV. They both now appear at the end of the programme guide flagged with 'Please Re-tune'. When selected, both channels give a blank screen with no video. Channel re-scanning via the TV menu makes no difference.

According to the Free-view website both channels should be available via the Sandy Heath transmitter.

There are also issues with Film4+1 and E4 Extra: For these channels, video is received but after a few seconds a pop up message is displayed indicating that the TV needs to be retuned before 21st October.

The same problem exists for the Free-view tuner in my Sony RDR-HXD890 DVD/HD recorder.

My suspicion is that the channel changes require the use of a different codec not supported in older devices.

If that is the case then the 'Please re-tune' messages are completely misleading.

Apparently Free-view expect customers with older devices to discard them to landfill even if they still work perfectly.

I am interested to hear what Sony think of this.

Regardless of an official answer from Sony you are expecting a 20years old (at least for the recorder) technology to be still fully supported in 2026….
