kdl32ex403u and sony hd player: 4;3 DVD in widescreen

how do I watch a 4:3 ratio dvd as a widescreen film. I have recently replaced my tv with a sony bravia. previously non widescreen dvds filled the screen however now they appear as a squre in the centre of the screen

You could use the zoom button on the remote? Its normally on the top row, looks like x & y axis with arrows at the end of each axis..
