XD9305 - Loss of all power

XD9305 - Loss of all power

Hi - Has anyone experienced a loss of power on the new XD9305?  Having switched TV off as normal yesterday, it is now dead.I have checked power and I have checked fuse - a 10Amp one and still nothing.I have also tried the button at the back and the remote ( and changed batteries).

Very frustrating as having bought the latest TV Sony have out ( in June), less than 6 months later TV is dead.

Easy DIY for those who brought second hand or refurbished..

I purchased an XD9305 model in July 2017 from Richer Sounds refurbished which came with a 12 month warrenty for just under £800

We chose the Sony despite being a refurbished model because it was "Sony" and our previous TV a "Sony" was impecible.

Last week the XD developed the same DPS boar fault, I was obviously pretty dissapointed as was my wife and daughter!

After reading all of the comments on here I decided to take the TV off the wall and fix it myself. Its a simple fix so if you are out of warranty or do not have the original purchase reciept for warranty purposes do not fret!

The faulty part is easily purchsed from eBay (other websites available!) for around £45 part number 1-980-840-11 (do check first)

Lay the TV face down ON A SOFT SURFACE and carefully (this is a bendy telly!) remove the screw covers, they are ovbious to see, then remove the screw from the plastic rear cover, the top two have a plastic pull up tab that you need to pull up, then firmly remove the cover. The DPS board is right in the middle and has a black heat sink (square black block) on it. Remove the 5 ribbon cables and 3 white connectors. Remove the 4 screw holding the board in place and refit the new board in reverse of removal. It really does take 10 mins.

If your handy with a screw driver you can fix your TV for £45 and be back up and running with no lost setting in a couple of days from order.

Hope this helps someone!

J

Hi @jaimecoastal

You can get it repaired free outside of warranty until January 2021. However your solution is probably quicker and more convenient.

Thank you very much for the tip. Maybe it would be worthwhile to try DIY fix. It is already second time my KD-55XD9305's power supply broke down. First time was just 6 months after buying the TV and now after about 18 months TV lost power again. Last time when I shipped the TV to local official Sony repair shop, I got the TV back damaged. The TV frame was disconnected and twisted leaving half-inch gap between frame and panel in top corner. So, it took first of all a couple of weeks to get the power supply repaired and few extra weeks afterwards to get the frame fixed too. Now I really hesitate to make another shipment to repair shop. Although I have supported and liked quite a time the Sony products (e.g. my old KDL-40W4000 is still working perfectly), if this is the quality now-a-days and TVs needs to be repaired almost annually, I don't see anyother solution than moving to other brands 😕

2nd one went today! Now the replacements are failing! Have booked it in, thank goodness for the 5 year warranty and the acknowledgment of Sony there is an issue. Only about 20 digits difference in serial number so bound to be from same batch! Hoping they’ve got to the bottom of it now and this will be final fix!

Get it replaced for the latest technology. Don't take their crap. They have had their one chance to put it right and it failed. Do Not Accept another repair INSIST on a replacement. I did and they replaced my XD9305 with an XE9305 all good for the last 2 years. Ian Boardman

Came across this thread while Googling holidays TV dilemmas

I had purchased my TV 55XD9305 in 2016 from Costco who offer a standard a five year warranty. Within the first six months I reported a problem with slowness, Sony released an update on the firmware which improved the performance for a short period.

Second issue, my TV loss power, it was repaired by Sony, the engineer did mentioned is was a common problem, this is all within the year.

Now the TV is over a year and we have been faced with problems which, we are running out of fingers to count... slowness, volume on TV does not change. Moving from Netflix to YouTube takes 8 seconds...

During the Christmas period our TV would not turn on and we have had no TV since. I am sure it is related to the PSU problem. As the TV is within the five year period, Costco will ask one of its sub-contractors to fix the problem.

My concern is, they already replaced the board two years ago, and I would have thought the replacement board would not have had the same defect. So if they replace this power unit with a replacement part, what's to say that it won't fail again and this time outside my warranty period...?

I purchased the Sony TV on the idea of a reliable brand, my parents have had their TV for over 11 years without any problems... Sony have really failed on the customer service and the quality of products have gone downhill...

Any advice would be appreciated.

As far as I know the problem never got fixed. So the replacement board may be failing in the same way after some time. I wouldn't accept that. I wonder how Sony can get away with this.

It’s a known issue with this one model (the loss of power issue) it was sold ‘not fit for purpose’ If they have tried to fix it once then insist on a full refund or upgrade. You have to push for it by speaking to the right people ie management not customer support. It took me months and many hours of stress many emails phone call etc but eventually got an upgraded model which has worked flawlessly for the past 2 years. I’d never by a Sony again but the upgrade in model was a benefit to me as it was in a price range I couldn’t afford at the time. Don’t take no for an answer, it’s a known problem and you are in the right to get a refund/upgrade. Start being a problem to them !! don’t let them fob you off with anything they say. You are in the right. Good luck Ian B

Hi,

From my original post several years ago this is know fault with this model and Sony will replace it.

Instead of chasing Sony to replace over many months I took out online money claim (county court summons) and they settled within 2 weeks of the summons being sent to them.

They haven’t a leg to stand on with this plus if you’ve allowed a repair and it’s fault again then your been fair. You can prove the fault was there when it was purchased

if you need any help DM direct I’ll talk you through the summons process

I bought my XD93 in april 2017 and it has been working without any replace ment parts since then. Actually it replaced a 2009 Samsung, in which I replaced a faulty powersupply. A lot of Samsung had this fault at the time. So when I learned that the XD93 also had this problem it got me worrying. I keept it though.

I also experience the slowness of the TV. It got better after a firmware upgrade, after which the volume indicator now displays immediatly. Usually it works at a bearable speed, but can slow down to be really annoying. An external USB connected can really slow it down just after power-on. Do not expect any future firmware upgrades. This 2016 model is born with 2015 technology inside and Sony TVs has moved to newer platforms since then.
