Linux Support

When is Linux support going to happen for the A77. I recently purchased an a77 to find that it has 1.04 firmware. I don't have access to a windows machine to upgrade. How do I upgrade the firmware!

Hello prjohn58 - Welcome to the Sony Forums

The Linux OS is something that seems to be getting more and more popular as people seem to be getting tired of the Microsoft/Apple monopoly - unfortunately there are no official firmware downloads that will allow you to update your camera on a Linux system. The only thing that I can advise you to do is to try asking a friend or family member if you can use theirs.

As far as the future is concerned, various Sony employees do read these forums on a regular basis and I would suggest that if enough users came onto the forums to request Linux support, this is something that may be considered officially in the future - perhaps you could mobilise all your fellow Linux users!

On the other hand, if another Linux user has managed to upgrade their camera firmware using a method that I am unaware of, please feel free to jump in!

Could I suggest that Sony set up wine parameters on PlayonLinux to allow firmware updates.
