Lee Filter Holder Adapter Ring

Hi everyone. First post from me and I'm hoping someone can help!
I am now the very proud owner of a Sony A7III Camera which I purchased last week with the kit lens,
FE 3.5 - 5.6 / 28 - 70.

It states on the lens that the diameter for filters is 55mm.

I have just bought a Lee Filter Holder adapter ring in this size but it doesn't fit!
Any ideas?
