Xperia 4 iii battery draining after May software update

Since Xperia system update Version 61.2.A.0.439 got installed on May 29th, my Xperia 5 iii is overheating and draining battery very quickly. Also some ghost app (just a black circle) appeared which I can not remove.

Could you please let me know how to resolve quickly?

Thanks!

and:

Quick (but possibly needing to be repeatedly done) fix:

"Try disabling play store, then long press on that app, it should disappear. Then enable play store again"

Possibly permanent (but need to backup all data first and set phone up from scratch again afterwards) fix:

My Xperia 5 iii is suffering exactly the same problem, getting hot, battery draining quickly and strange empty circle related to Play Store appearing in the apps. I think this must be a widespread issue, Sony need to release a fix asap! Btw the fix to remove the white circle didn't work unfortunately. If you click it normally, tries to launch Play Store then says "Something Went Wrong"

Hi @neilladavies  and welcome to the Sony user Community :slight_smile:

The only way to fix this currently is by either performing a factory reset or a software repair.

Sony are aware of these issues but we have had no news yet of any further update that will

resolve them.

@neilladavies

You need to (at minimum) disable the Play Store app first.

(Others have suggested doing a force stop on it as well, plus clearing its cache and storage.)

After you've disabled Play Store you should be able to long press the blank app icon and it will disappear.

Then re-enable Play Store again.
