Google assistant pops up, over and over again, when connecting wired headset (Sony Xperia 10)

I experience a very annoying thing since some weeks back. I think it appeared after last android update but not fully sure about that.

Every time I connect a wired headset (I have tried two separate Sony headsets), the google assistant keeps popping up on my mobile. I do not want google assistant to pop up. It interrupts my listening to radio (using wired headset to listen to FM radio, therefore not using bluetooth headset).

Since it happens with two separate headsets (different Sony models: one is MDR-EX15AP and the other MDR-XB510AS), I strongly suspect the problem to be the phone. I have restarted it, I have cleared google cache but still google assistant keeps popping up when I connect one of the headsets. It continues when headset is connected, so my listening to radio is constantly interrupted by pings from google assistant.

What can I do to NOT trigger google assistant when using wired headset.

Phone is Sony Xperia 10 (I4113) bought in Sweden, running android 10, version 53.1.A.2.2.

All apps upgraded to latest version according to google play.

hi @PatrikT, some headphones have an ability to trigger Google Assistant by pressing the headset button, so my guess is that there's something going on with the headphone jack connection which makes the phone think that you're pressing the button. you could try to gently clean the jack with a wooden toothpick (NOT anything made of metal!) and remove any potential lint buildup that would disrupt the connection. checking with yet another headphone set to see if the same thing happens probably wouldn't hurt, either
