Bluetooth car connection

When I make a call in my car the microphone and speakers are muted. I've found that if I switch the call back the the phone then it is connecting fine and then I can connect the car again and it's ok. This is the same problem in my wife's car as well so it's definitely the phone and not the car.

Anyone got any ideas for some settings or something that I could change??

What car system and phone are you using?

I've Xperia 10ii. The cars are 2011 Honda Insight and 2016 Nissan Qashqui.

I may have to resort to a factory reset but it's such a chore to get the phone personalised again

Have you tried unpairing and repairing them or trying a different phone with either of those cars?

Yep. Tried that. My partner's phone still works fine so it's definitely the phone

You can try to clear cache and data and force stop the Bluetooth app on your phone. you can also try the connection on safe mode and check if the same thing will happen or not.

I've tried to clear the cache but haven't figured out how to do this. Any advice how to clear the cache on Xperia 10ii

It may be slightly different on your phone, but this should be how to do it.

Go to Settings - Apps & Notifications - App info - press the 3 dots at the top right - Show System - scroll down to Bluetooth - Storage - then press the Clear Cache

Edit, I forgot to say to Clear Data and Force Stop also, and after you have done all that to restart you phone also, which is something you should do every week or two anyway.
