KDL-40EX503 fails to recognise & set correct aspect ratio

In 'smart' mode, the TV doesn't recognise 4:3 format. If 4:3 is set manually, it automatically jumps back to the wrong setting every time there's an ad break and has to be re-set manually.

Is there any way to get it to automatically set the aspect ratio to 4:3 when the broadcast picture is 4:3 rather than having to set it manually every time?

Hi Martin

I found this too. Are you watching in digital or analogue. On digital I have mine set to wide as nearly all programmes are broadcast in wide anyway. Can't comment on analogue as it's been turned off in my area.

Yes, it's digital. It seems that the 4:3 has been switched off on the HDMI port. That sucks, as there are still a lot of shows here that are broadcast in 4:3. Good thing I can still get a refund on the tv!

I was going mad with that as well - too many fat faces !

However I found it! settings>display>screen>4:3 format - set to 4:3 (NOT smart)

It now works correctly switching from 4:3 to wide for adds and back again.
