Hi,

I have Vaio laptop VPCF11S1E with Geforce 330M. If I let Windows 7 provide driver it will crash every now and then. Screen goes blank and only way to recover is shutdown with power button or plug out the power cord.

Sometime Windows is able to recover from this and there is notification at right down corner that Nvidia driver crashed etc.

Then I tried to download latest driver from Nvidia, but same problem.

Usually crashing happens when screen "flashes", for example when installing some software and admin rights are prompted. Also quite often when I try to shutdown computer, screen goes blank, but computer won't shutdown.

Now I removed all Nvidia related drivers, files and register entries. I forced Windows to use Standard VGA drivers. And it works fine.

But this poor resolution is not very nice, so any idea what driver I should use that I could get benefit of this Nvidia card and Full HD resolution , without constant crashing and restarting.

Thanks.

I reinstalled Windows 7, so I assume that original Sony drivers were used then.

I also tried those updated graphics drivers that can be found from the link you provided.

Won't work either, same problems.

Hi prenne79,

Assuming that you used either your recovery disks or the HDD recovery partition to restore to factory settings and the problem persists then it is almost certainly a hardware issue - possibly temperature related.

There have been posts on this forum concerning high temperatures on this series and a BIOS update was released by Sony that was intended to address the issue.

If your machine is still in warranty contact Vaio Link for advice.

Rich

I am giving you details as:

Sony Vaio VGN-NR21S.

Model PCG-7121M

Graphics: NVIDIA 8400M GT GPU

Intel Core 2 Due

One thing is that I usually do not shutdown my laptop but just close the lid with power on.

Mubasher

Some time ago laptop was broken and repaired during warranty by Sony. I think motherboard was changed. Well I can't be 100% sure that did this problem occur right after that.

EDIT: And BIOS is updated to latest.

Message was edited by: prinne79

Message was edited by: prinne79
