We have a very old Sony vaio PCG-FR415M which we would like our 8yr old to use.

Problems:

1. nothing loads up - we get the sony/intel inside logo with the press F12 at bottom of screen. Press it but the screen just hangs. Tried to enter BIOS? - Just hangs at Entering SETUP....

2. Laptop gets very hot and cuts out.

Dont want to have to buy him a new one so any help would be great!

Hi Wotshep,

You could have more than one problem.

Taking point 2 first – overheating may suggest that the cooling vents and fan are clogged with dust. Cleaning the cooling vents using a can of compressed air (often sold as ‘Air Duster’) may help but often disassembly is required to clean the fan and vents thoroughly.

Point 1 needs to be addressed separately if temperature (overheating) is not the sole problem.
