Can I incrrase the Hard Disc size on my Sony Vaio VGN-BX-196P if so how, is there a plug in unit?

Hi remitch29,

I am almost certain that the BX series has a simple slot in drive that only requires the removal of one screw to extract - no disassembly required. This, I think, is located on the front right hand side when viewed from above.

You should be able to upgrade to 500GB IDE/PATA, but check with the supplier before ordering.

Hi Rene,

I’m afraid I can’t recommend a supplier and a Google suggests that these drives are not as plentiful as they once were. It seems that anything over 120GB is either unavailable or hugely expensive.

Try a search for 2.5” IDE PATA hard drive. Below is a link to one result.
