Anyone know of any more trustworthy sources for free ebooks, apart from the ones suggested by Sony ?

I know there are lots out there, but am always a little cautious about registering myself on sites I know nothing about !

For example, I am quite keen to get hold of the Poirot books, and I believe Agatha Christie's out of copyright, and would love to have a recommendation for these.

Perhaps a register of such sites could be held here on the Forum, as in other Forums, to help us ?

Actually, a seperate one for paid ebooks wouldn't be a bad idea either. I've dealt with Waterstones O.K., WHS not so good - in fact I still can't get what I've paid for !

As the old saying goes, personal recommendation is best. Be it builders, plumbers- ebooks ?

Agatha Christie is out of copyright in the US, but still in copyright in the UK.

I'm not a legal expert, but I think that I' right in saying that UK copyright lasts for 70 years after an author's death (Agatha died in 1976), US copyright is 70 years after first publication.

You're unlikely to be prosecuted for downloading a book from a US site, which is still in copyright in the UK, or elsewhere. It's more a question of ethics.

Project Gutenberg has thousands of public domain ebooks and doesn't require registration. Manybooks.net also doesn't require registration.
