Nex 3 control dial screwed up since the last update to version 5

I've owned this camera from new and this happened quite a while ago:

Since the camera was updated to version 5 firmware the control dial now does not fuction as it should. The up/down/left and right selections do completely the opposite or something else completely. I've tried to re-flash but Sony in its infinite wisdom does not allow you to do this.

I've contacted Sony who ask me to return it for repair with no answer as to roughly how much they are going to sting my wallet. And when I go to the website i'm pointed to a page to look for the nearest Sony centre to return it.

All of which do not show up as they went bust!!!

Great start. Any answers before I flog the thing and move to something more reliable and non Sony?
