Fix it or leave it?

I bought a used 200 - 600 g lens. Works perfectly and picture quality is great. The only problem I have is a Chiped filter thread.

should I be worried and get it fixed or leave it? I am not planing to use any filters with it as I read it can mess up the auto focusing.
If it rains i plan to use a rain cover.
I plan to go on a safari one day, i know it can get dusty.
There is no visible dust inside the lens so I guess it is still weather sealed? Am I stressing to much?

i got it for a really good price used and failed to notice it upon inspection but does not look like it was droped and is otherwise in perfect condition

I would just leave it. Always use the lens hood to give it some protection to the front glass

I would assume it costs a large amount for Sony to fix it.

Note the lens is dust and moisture resistant but 'Not guaranteed to be 100% dust- and moisture-proof.'

Thanks, I am a bit relieved. I am using the lens hood all the time.
