topic hdr as50 loop record & overwriting files in Action Cam

Hi all , is there a way to have loop recording and it automatically overwrites the oldest file so I can use it as a dashcam ? It'll overwrite files taken within the same recording session but once you turn the camera off & on again if the card is full at that point you have to reformat the card ? Seems to be a bit of an oversight in my opinion unless I'm missing something ?

Betreff: hdr as50 loop record & overwriting files

Hi @Dwhome99,

since the HDR-AS50 was not designed as a dashcam (or survaillance camera), its LOOP-mode works different than on these types of cameras.

It is meant to e.g. capture a skateboard trick and only keep the successful (last) attempt. It is assumed, that you use the LOOP-mode with the intention to capture something like that or something similar, which is, why every loop-recording is saved no matter what.

On Dashcams everything gets overwritten unless you choose to protect the clip, which is the complete opposite of the LOOP-mode on your Action Cam.

I hope that clears things up.

- Nic
