STR-DE475 remote control for STR-DE497?

Hello,

After 20 years my good old STR-DE475 failed (a PROTECT error on the display, even with disconnected outputs, also tried system reset but no success). I have a chance to get a cheap STR-DE497 but with no remote control. My STR-DE475 uses remote RM-U305, but for STR-DE497 there is RM-U306 to be used.

Will my RM-U305 also work with STR-DE497? I assume some functionalities might be affected, but the majority should work (?). The remotes seem to be very similar.

Yes, your old remote should work with the new receiver as well.

That's great, thanks. But then - if my remote (RM-U305) will work with the newer receiver, why STR-DE497 has a different remote (RM-U306)?

It's normal for newer models to have newer/different remotes and it's a little less normal for newer models to support older/multiple remotes, so you're in luck ^^.

Just a few notes based on my tests, just in case that someone could get into the same situation as me : RM-U305 (remote control for STR-DE475) unfortunately does not work with STR-DE497 at all. So I tried to buy some non-genuine replacement reprogrammed to STR-DE497 (used genuine RM-U306B for STR-DE497 are too expensive), but was unlucky for the manufacturer because some functions didn't work. Finally, a lady luck smiled at me to have a chance tu buy a cheap second hand genuine RM-U307 (for STR-DE695) which looks exactly like RM-U306B (for STR-DE497), and this RM-U307 works fully with STR-DE497. So eventually - happy days.
