It is. I have kept it going for as long as possible because:

a) The camera. Amazing for it's spec. Pics magnify up to A4, havn't needed to try any bigger. The small screen on the phone is perfectly adequate for quality checks especially with the zoom feature, so decisions can be made such as 'take it again' or 'that's good enough', etc. Some of the phone cameras I have tried don't record colour at all well. Some are actually advertised as 0.3 megapixels, I'm sure my very first digital camera was better than that!

b) The encrypted memory. Not seen on any other phone I've tried. If a criminal gets it wrong the K750i shows a plausible selection of passwords, but they are all wrong. So after 3 goes at the ATM the criminal will be out of luck. Others show a message "Wrong Number please try again" which can be repeated ad infinitum if time is available! I think Sony used Hashing (as we used to call it), based on random numbers. Super secure, can't understand why other companies don't use it.

c) Proper buttons. I hate touch screens.

d) The size. Fits in pockets easily. I don't want something the size of a bathroom tile. It would probably snap in half while crossing stiles on country walks.

The main problem now is that G2 is to be switched off in this area soon. There are lots of cheap small phones around, most are virtually useless. Many don't use the same clock for all the apps that need time info. Many don't use the network clock either. So all apps such as calendar, planner, etc, have their own clock, probably derived from an internal crystal, and each has to be set up individually. Pathetic. The K750i was always right.

If you are not using your old SIM card or have a new subscription, get in touch with your operator so they can check on their end.

For the actual device and a downloaded application, try restarting your device in safe mode where downloaded applications are not started and make a call that is 30 minutes and see if it still cuts out or not.

Let me know if that helps!

Hi Jonas

Thanks for your reply. I have the same sim as in my previous phone, there is no limit on my phone calls. I suspect like you have said it is an app i have downloaded.

I will restart phone and use in safe mode, if this is ok then it definitely is an app i have downloaded. How will i know which one?? I suspect i will have to a factory reset?

Thanks in advance

I have the exact same problem. Every call (not WiFi calls like Whatsapp, only ordinary dial a number calls) gets cut off after precisely 30 min. Vodafone told me that this was not caused by them and is a Sony issue.

Maybe this was installed to prevent accidental pocket dial calls to last 10 hours?

But I really need to know how to fix it. I provide telephone sessions for patients with mental health issues and it's really not ok to cut them off every 30 minutes.

I would check a list of things.

I wonder if there is a certain app that uses up too much memory that force closes your calling app?

You can check in developer options:

2 finger slide down notifications drawler > gear icon settings > system > about phone > (on the bottom click 5 or more times rapidly) build number

< Go back

system > advance > developer options > Memory memory used by apps > check the past 3, 6, 12 hours

Maybe you can find the culprit app and delete it.

2 finger slide down notifications drawler > gear icon settings > Network & Internet > Internet Setting > Accept (Download MMS settings)

2 finger slide down notifications drawler > gear icon settings > Network & Internet > Mobile Network > Roaming is off, > Access Point Names (ask your carrier what is the newest APNs setting)

App drawer > long press Phone Icon > click circle icon with "i" > clear storage & clear cache

> Advance > open by default > clear defaults

> Permissions > re activate all permissions.

Network & Internet > Wifi > Wifi Preferences > Open Network notifications (turn off, to prevent hunting for wifi everywhere where you go.)

I hope this some how trouble shoots your problem.

Endless its a case where you accidentally press airplane mode with your cheek.

Hi I have the same problem with my Sony Xperia Xz1 compact. The network has no restrictions on call lengths whatsoever. I have trouble-shooted it with Vodafone on their CS and tech lines and they say they don't even have the ability to time-limit calls in this way. Some functions warn you about costs running high, but no automatic cut offs of calls.

Since my phone gives me the time of the call I can be certain that the calls last 30 minutes exactly, not one second more or less. This rules out the idea of it being the result of an overload or something of that nature.

I have troubleshooted my phone and run the diagnostics for bad behaving apps. Nothing pops up.

I googled this issue with no brand name attached and immediately found all these Sony xperia issues, so I don't think that's coincidence. And like the other customer, WhatsApp and Signal calls are not affected, only mobile network calls. Vodafone says it's nothing to do with them, so can't somebody from Sony be persuaded to give an answer?

It's a Vodafone problem when you have 4g calling with certain phones including some Sony, Pixel and others and Vodafone have known about it for at least 2 years and either can't or can't be bothered to fix it. It is not an 3rd party App problem.

A quick workaround is to switch the phone to 3g before making a long call or using it in safe mode which disables 4g calling.

Here is a link to the Vodafone Android forum. https://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Android/Pixel-3xl-drops-calls-after-half-hour/td-p/2657129

The best thing you can do is to keep badgering them. They will tell you to contact then via a private message on social media to keep things out of the public domain and have you jumping through hoops doing things to your phone that they know will not fix the problem. Good luck.

Hey there,

When you say it drops, like the call disconnects? Or, there's no sound but the call still on going?

Or, does the phone itself power OFF? That would help us understand more about what's happening.

Cheers

The call only just disconnects as if you have pressed the End Call button after exactly 29 Minutes 50 Seconds, every time, only when 4g calling as per my post above, even if you are mid sentence and as far as I know only for outgoing calls all as per the long thread I linked above which was for a Pixel phone but applies to some Sony phones as well on Vodafone UK. I believe it does not happen with other carriers.

I think the Sony phones that have the problem are some of the older ones, including the XZ series with the Google Dialler, which I believe the UK ones had.

Hi @Anonymous

I personally haven't communicated directly with Sony. I'm a bit late to the party, normally I would not talk for more than 30 minutes but since Covid everything important including medical things is done over the phone, sometimes for long periods, and it was only recently that I realised that I had the problem.

Reading that very long post from the Pixel owner it is a Vodafone, or Vodafone UK problem with certain phones of similar age when making a call over their 4g network. Other people have changed providers and the problem has gone away and that is what I might have to do, which is unfortunate because I get an excellent signal with Vodafone where I live and even when I'm in out in the countryside.

The phone was also bought from Vodafone so I may not be able to get 4g calling with another provider without changing the firmware.

"They will tell you to contact then via a private message on social media to keep things out of the public domain and have you jumping through hoops doing things to your phone that they know will not fix the problem. "

I had exactly the same experience with EE. They got the terminology wrong too, continuously referring to the 'phone password' when what they really meant was the keyboard unlock password. I nearly ended up bricking it because of their 'help' but tried one more thing just in time.

General comment: I used to be a great fan of Sony phones until they stopped support for mine after only a year of ownership. And now I'm looking at all these complaints about phones and TV sets, my opinion has dropped even lower.

One way to get me back as a customer would be to introduce a 21st Century version of the K750i with NO ANDROID in it. And no microsoft either. But with the same superb camera and Code Memo software.

Hey @Tizer1, I'd actually recommend checking directly with Vodafone as it is totally related to the SIM card. If there is any possibility of testing different SIM card on your phone or the same SIM with different phone, do it to confirm what causing the issue.

Hi @Piscie , not only have Vodafone sent me a brand new Sim card but they have also completely reset my account from scratch and it has not made any difference.

Putting either Sim card in another phone solves the problem, that is because the other phone makes the call in 3g. If I switch 4g off on my phone then I can talk for as long as I want, which is the same putting the Sim into another phone that makes the call in 3g.

Putting the phone into Safe Mode also solves the problem, that is because the call is done on 3g not because it is rogue App.
