Will I get official updates from Sony Ericsson after rooting my Xperia pro?

i am using a xperia pro. i am thinking to root my phone. will i be able to get official updates from sony ericsson after doing so?

You won't recieve OTA updates if you unlock the bootloader using SE's tool but I believe you will if you are just looking to gain root for a few apps from the market.

That is correct, as long as you don't unlock the bootloader you will receive OTA udpates

quite easy, run either PCC or SEUS if it says that it can not recognize your phone bc you have a modified software then that means the bootloader has been unlocked

It means you haven't got an unlocked bootloader so if you root you will still get OTA updates.

wee yes..you can always lock your bootloader and unroot your phone..but some system files are lost if you unlock bootloader which canot be restored back..

uliwooly what were those files :smileygrin: i remmebr something saying about system or certificates etc etc..

hello.. in the official bootloader unlock guide by se it says if the bootloader unlock allowed . yes then i will be able to unlock the bootloader. probably its not unlockedd in my case i guess if i'm not wrong..

I think the best way to do this will be for you to borrow a PC and use PCC or SEUS to test your phone

I'm not that well informed about rooting and what it comes with but I take it from others comments that it can be done via PC Companion but not OTA. I cannot confirm this though.

I can however confirm that your warranty will be long gone if you e.g. unlock the boot loader so be careful with all that involves unlocking the boot loader, rooting and installing custom roms.

you can still get OTA updates if you root your phone, but only if you don't unlock the bootloader, in other words, if you unlock your bootloader you won't be able to update your phone, not even with PCC or SEUS

Just to clarify for people out there as there is a lot of confusing noise in this thread.

Using the ZergRush exploit on Android 2.3.4 to root your phone does not require you to change your bootloader in any way, shape or form. Therefore, if all you want to do is root, do NOT unlock your bootloader.
