at first usage i formatted it with the phone - i tried several times due to error messages saying card defect - then suddenly the card was accepted - after this i used the sd card tool to move pics and music to sd card - i noticed that some music sub folders had been transferred and where empty on phone location - but some where still on the ephone and the corresponding folder on sd card was empty

after reboot the card was marked as defect and a "format card" message was displayed again

i removed the the card - it worked fine on my notebook

i formatted it on the notebook but without effect - the phone still says - card defect

the support blames the uhs specification for not working (sandisk ultra sdhc 32gb - uhs 3)

unfortunately i have no other phone to test the card - may be tomorrow i can try it in a xperia sp - my own arc s i did not try until now - perhaps i will give it a try

just inserted the card again and got no error the card was at last formatted on my notebook using the adapter shipped with maybe I did not try the card yesterday after formatting it with the notebook ? again I made the swap procedure moving music pictures and videos this time I took a closer look at the results because again not all music was transferred to the card - result is - all music that was encoded with iTunes (.m4a) is still on the phone - the walkwman app can play this files but it is not recognized as music by the swap tool - unfortunately my es explorer is not allowed to copy files to the sd card - I will try to copy between the internal memory and the ad card when the phone is connected by USB to a pc - or better dump music directly to the sd card

My guess is that the music you tried to transfer is DRM protected so you won't be able to move it. You could try to move using a file explorer (file commander default app).

problem clearly identified

its the sd card slot !

i removed the sd card after it to my surpise was working and copied a lot of stuff (music and photos from the former phone - a w595 - my wife love it) to the sd card using the adaptor (in this case a uhs card is very useful)

after returning it to the phone i was confronted with the message "card defect"

guess what - i removed the card and inserted it again - i did not count but i must had inserted it about 10 times before i got it workin again - this is very unusual

i could not believe that - so i removed the card - again i had to remove and insert it many times before it worked again

unfortunately sony does no longer have a representation in austria - instead they have servicepartners - i hope these guys are allowed to replace the phone - i fear that the card could lose connection in case of vibration or liitle bumps when putting it on a table - so i will insist to get it replaced - another way would be to get it replaced by the network provider i got it from

ps

the music left on the phone is for sure not drm protected - a drm protected iTunes file has a .m4p extension - my files where ripped from own cds and have a .m4a extension

the swap tool does only move .mp3 files to the sc card - with es file explorer i had no luck due to android restriction - the app is not allowed to write to external memory - the error message was something like "you need android 5 or root permission to copy files"

i dont understand this swap tool at all - after checking the boxes what files should be exported to the sd card i can no longer change the settings - it seems that if you decide to have music pictures and videos on the sd card you can not switch back to have it in phone memory (in fact removing the sd card leads to a message - sd crd removed - insert another one...)

thanks for the hint with the preinstalled explorer !

i did not drop the phone for repair until now - i will call the sony service partner on monday if they will change the phone to another one or repair it

the phone is about 170-200 euros in shops - so i guess it is not worth more than 30 euros at all - its cheaper for sony to handle out a new one instead of repairing it

may be the better way is to insist that my provider should solve the problem with the phone because for legal reasons he is the first contact and is responsible for the product i bought from him

i will know better on monday

in case of having it repaired i wont accept it when it does not pass a test with 10 times remove - 10 times insert without problems

i never had any contact problems with a phone

regards

manfred
